Water Quality Specialist, Conservation Districts of Iowa
As a Water Quality Specialist with Conservation Districts of Iowa, Catherine DeLong supports and represents the 500 elected soil and water conservation district commissioners in the state. DeLong received her BS from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and her MS in Soil Science from Iowa State University (ISU), where her thesis focused on quantifying the soil carbon content of ISU’s research farms.
Before joining CDI she worked on a farmer-focused climate adaptation course for the USDA, Global Agriculture Programs at ISU, a California almond farm, and a United Nations blog for the International Year of Soils.
Water Quality Program Manager, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach
Jamie Benning is the Water Quality Program Manager with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. She coordinates existing extension program activities related to water quality, connects with water researchers, and develops new programs to meet stakeholder needs. Benning connects with external partners and stakeholders to support water quality improvement efforts throughout the state. Benning obtained a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy and master’s degree in Soil Science, both from Iowa State University.
She has experience in multi-disciplinary research and extension projects focusing on water quality, watershed management, farmer-leadership, soil quality, and nutrient management.
